Backup
The first element of company protection should be for the data, without data there will be no service. Data corruption must be prevented at all costs. In general this is protected by the backup device and as data sizes grow recovery can be lengthy. Typically on a fully trusted backup system it would take a day to recover yesterday's data providing a 48 hour loss of service. In practice very few backup systems are fully trusted and compromises are made to maintain user performance as the backup process expands beyond the out of hours availability.

Archive Data
Most organisations generate massive quantities of data.
